about me & your next step

about me

Hello! My name is Alaina Rahaim. I am a Career Advisor and Graduate student at Florida State University, currently pursuing Master of Science and Educational Specialist degrees in Counseling and Human Systems, with an emphasis in Career Counseling. My Bachelor's degree is in Human Communication with a minor in English Literature from the University of Central Florida, from which I graduated Magna Cum Laude in May 2016.

As a Career Advisor at Florida State University, I provide drop-in advising to students and community members on topics such as resume critiques and interview strategies. Additionally, I provide more comprehensive assessment and therapy through individual counseling to clients with complex mental health and career development needs.

For more information on my education and experience, please check out my resume, attached as a word document, and feel free to connect with me on LinkedIn.

about Your next step

This website serves the dual purpose of completing class requirements for my graduate degree, while also providing me with a platform to promote myself professionally, develop my technological skills, and augment the information available for high school students who may be considering, Your Next Step.

Regardless of income, race, ethnic  or language background, or disability status, I feel strongly that every student should graduate from high school ready to embark on Your Next Step, whether that be college or career. After earning my Master of Science and Educational Specialist degrees in Career Counseling, I aspire to help high school students achieve their college or career readiness by working with students to enhance their self and options knowledge. Using a Cognitive Information Processing approach, it is my goal to collaborate with students to facilitate exploration of their interests, values, and skills, increase their options knowledge, and enhance their decision making skills and career decision-making self-efficacy.

Although my theoretical orientation as a counselor is still developing, I am currently very interested in practicing Person Centered and Existential techniques. My career counseling orientation is firmly grounded in Cognitive Information Processing (CIP) theory which was developed at Florida State University. More information about this approach can be found here:
